My Greatest Technical Challenges< Back
ALAMEDA/HARBOR BAY FERRY TERMINAL
My most dramatic small public building is the Alameda/Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal. I was on an intensely limited budget, but I wanted to caputre some of the spirit of my old friend from Athens - the Parthenon. This modest, but elegant little terminal is on a tremendous Bay edge site that was a challenge and an inspiration to do more with less. One of my memorable Harvard professors, the great educator Ed Baum, once told me during a desk critique that "good proportions are free."
