My Greatest Technical Challenges

< Back

A new city in the desert along the Red Sea. It was a great honor to be selected to participate on a team of internationally respected architects on this very large and dramatically challenging project.

It is always a superb learning experience to deliver architecture in foreign culture, and especially a religion different from one's own. The design parameters and opportunities presented by the harsh climate and the Saudi Arabian culture drew a great sustained design effort out of our team of ten architects.

While sitting at my desk in our office toward the end of a very busy year, I was in earshot of seven different languages spoken by our team members. The office eventually grew from fifteen people to ninety as we completed the design and contract documents for a community of 50,000 people.
